span style=”font-size: 10pt; font-family: “Verdana”,”sans-serif”; color: black;”>”I was diagnosed with MS when I was 28,” said Kopera, now 40. “My dad was never diagnosed with MS, but he had all of the symptoms. His mother was diagnosed with MS.”

MS is described as an autoimmune disease where the body attacks its own tissue – specifically, the central nervous system.

“I lost my eyesight twice. I lost complete control of my hands. I couldn’t even open a car door, because I couldn’t put my fingers together,” Kopera said.

The most common recommended MS treatment is one of four injected therapies. Kopera received one $200 shot of Avonex at the Nebraska Medical Center per week.

As the sole proprietor of a nail and gift boutique, Kopera had to supply her own medical coverage at the time.

“My deductible started at $5,000. The premiums kept going up and up. I spent probably $30,000 to $40,000 out of my own pocket for medical services,” she said. “When my insurance premium became $1,000 per month, I had to do something.”

Kopera had experiences with alternative medicine as a teenager.

“When I was 16, I had problems with my back, and they wanted to do surgery,” she remembered. “My dad took me to a nutritionist, and we found out I had too many heavy metals in my diet. She put me on a special diet, and that year I was healed.”

She said her father introduced her to essential texts and formulas that she uses today in her online store at www.ginascorner.com.

“He gave me this bottle of Cayenne Tincture he had made from a recipe in a book,” Kopera said. “I had a cold sore starting on my lip, and I always had trouble with them. I used one drop, and the next morning (the sore) was dried up.”

Kopera still was not convinced that herbal remedies were as effective as modern medicine. It was during a severe attack where extreme measures stopped working that she took treatment into her own hands.

“I was taking 1,000 milligrams of steroids intravenously, and it became non-effective,” she said. “You start getting used to these things.”

Deciding to do everything in her power, Kopera made a 32-ounce batch of “live juice” with a flavor and consistency close to “swamp water.” Though she now realizes it was enough for four people, she finished the whole batch herself.

“Live juice is fresh vegetables and fruit that go into a juicer. You get the same vitamins and nutrients from seven carrots in 10 ounces of juice,” she explained.

The results were awe-inspiring for Kopera.

“I got better. My sight was restored. Every single day, I kept progressing and getting better,” Kopera said. “It did in two weeks what steroids couldn’t do in two months.”

A few years passed, and Kopera experienced numbness in her body again that progressed more rapidly than ever. In a panic, she contacted Nebraska Medical Center to schedule another round of steroids.

“I still didn’t believe natural healing was the final word,” she said. “They couldn’t see me for two weeks, and I was in a lot of pain.”

She tried the swamp water again and did not bother to keep the appointment.

“The only time I went back was to do a talk one year later,” she said.

Seminars and informative presentations are a big part of what Kopera does now. She also has a complete line of herbal remedies that address several ailments. Her Power Products are available on the Web site or locally at the Ancient Wisdom Wellness Center, 305 McKenzie Ave.

“It took me three or four years to figure this out,” she said. “I’m a real person that just took the time and kept pushing it up a notch.”

Through research and personal experiments with different combinations and dosages, Kopera developed recipes for healthier living that include a Deluxe Colon Cleanse Combo, which consists of intestinal PowerGrab and PowerPooP formulas.

“About 90 percent of diseases start in the colon and liver, so cleansing the colon is the first place to start,” she said. “When you cleanse your organs, it is most effective on a fast.”

Kopera recommends ingesting only water or herbal teas during the initial cleansing process.

“You know you’re doing something right when your energy goes way up,” she said.

She will share suggestions for insomnia, weight issues and more during speaking engagements.

“Last weekend, I spoke to a ladies empowerment group at a church,” she said. “I have answers for pretty much any ailment. My goal with all of this is to communicate them clearly to a lot of people.”

Other products include a bone, flesh and cartilage formula; thyroid formula to relieve mastitis, thyroid malfunction and tonsillitis; detoxification teas, lotions, hormone regulating formulas and much more.

With one month left in a Master Herbalist Certification program, more Kopera Power Products are expected in the future.

At the writing of this, I am a 34 year old wife and mother, diagnosed 6 years ago with MS. Though I fit its diagnostic the demographics: youthful, Caucasian, female, this odd disease still hit me–as I’m sure many others will attest to–out of the blue. I was a new mom and healthy, with little in my health history to suggest anything out of the ordinary in the way of childhood diseases. It is known that M.S. can strike teenagers and when it does, the initial attack is often not diagnosed properly because the symptoms might not recur for years. Sometime the symptoms can be slight enough they go unnoticed or you may be use to it you may not know the difference. I did, however, have some serious back problems as a teenager, which did mean that I saw numerous amount of doctors, took various prescription drugs and missed a fair amount of school. Nothing in the medical community in my Arizona city came up with helped, however, and the only option left, it seems was surgery. My father was against my going through major back surgery at that time, however, took me to a nutritionist. I was put on a regime of diet and exercise. In three months the pain was gone with no recurrence. The trouble is, I never thought about it again, even though it could of been prudent to things to come. In all honesty, I had put it out of my mind. Back pain did not haunt me, thankfully, but also, the idea of nutrition having anything to do with the alleviation of specific pathological symptoms of a disease never entered my mind either! I did not extrapolate at all from that experience the role diet might play in the other future aspects of my health. Not, that is, until my father would once again intervene on my behalf with enlightening, maybe even life-saving, unsolicited health advice! The Onset of M.S. At twenty-one years old, having graduated from cosmetology school intent of striking out on my own, I moved to Omaha, Nebraska, leaving behind the sunny climes of Phoenix. I worked for three years in which time I met and fell in love with my future husband. We were married five months after we met. That same year, I embarked on another new phase of life starting my own nail salon and gift shop! My husband, himself a successful construction business owner, undertook to help me bring my interior design ideas for the shop to fruition, and together we created a warm and inviting, efficient atmosphere for my business to take hold. And take hold it did! At twenty four years of age I was off and running with a future as bright as any star in the night sky. My clientel and inventory grew exponentially. I was happy fulfilled and successful and, a short three years later…pregnant! Our plans included building our own little dream house and filling it with kids! At age twenty-seven this seems to be shaping up like clock work: I was a thrilled mom of a sweet, beautiful baby boy. Like the myriad of other women of my day and age, I was pretty busy gal at this point, juggling the various roles of wife, new mother, and successful business entrepreneur. I was a manicurist/nail tech with a full Rolodex of clients myself: but I was also the “Boss” in charge of hiring and firing: the buyer of the gift inventory, the display and design specialist, and gift shop sale person. I kept the books, did the advertising and saw to the day-to-day running of my own “Nail Gallery” EMPIRE! My business, I hasten to add that at one point in time not so long ago, this happy reality was very much in jeopardy. At the onset of symptoms common to M.S. such as dizziness, weakness, numbness in the limbs, a sensation of tingling pins and needles, and blurred vision, and after a series of diagnostic test procedures, I was formally diagnosed with the disease in June of 1997. The Dr. told me” I would go home and cry my eyeballs out. Since the symptoms were intermittent, as is often the case, especially in patients diagnosed as “remitting and relapsing”, I went into a period of denial and ignored the whole thing for about a year. The second year I sought a second opinion. This specialist ran every conceivable test–again–and came up with the same diagnosis, but didn’t want to put me in an actual category just yet. Until I had more symptoms, which happened about six months later. During this period I sought the solace and support of others with M.S., joined a support group, surfed the web for insight and sympathy, ran in the race for the cure in Chicago (where I raised an awesome amount of money if I do say so myself) and generally made myself aware of the current medical procedures and prognoses available. One of the ironies of doing all this work to educate myself about the disease, however, was that I was constantly running up against an aure of pessimism. The prevailing attitude was that, while M.S. was not a death sentence per se, it was met by a lot of people with an attitude of resignation to a life of incapacity, a life in a wheelchair or worse. People everywhere with M.S. were planning there existence around the fact that they have a disease that would rob them of their vitality, their control, their dignity, and that I should start preparing for that day myself. How life would or should be lead from a wheelchair became the governing factor for the patients, even before this “inevitability” had come. It’s not that I didn’t think about it. Sure, numbness and weakness, especially in my hands, use of which is what my professional depended upon, loomed as bad news for me! But preparation for being wheelchair bound was not on my radar screen, not yet at least. Or was it? The alarming part is that it is exactly what I had begun to happen to me! I began to picture my husband needing to run my business along with his own, to care for our child all by himself, and worst yet, to care for me. This was an untenable situation, so I made the decision to close my wonderful shop. There was some space in a beauty shop around the corner where I could still work but could cut my hours back, rest and plan out my remaining time of relatively good health while I still had some, whether it be years months or weeks…. THE BOOK WILL BE COMING OUT SOON, ADD YOUR NAME TO THE SUBSCRIPTION LIST AND I WILL NOTIFY YOU AS SOON AS IT IS AVAILABLE. www.ginakopera.com

My Son Conquered Epilepsy

My son Journey from seizures to seizure free: I had observed that he had the same bumps on his arms that I had had, and which went away when I went on the first non-intentional fast. I felt he had inherited a genetic curse from me. What really happened that woke us up, however was worse than bumps. He had gotten hit twice in the head with a baseball and shortly after that within days, he started having seizures. It was summertime and his day-care center made trips out to a farm, which he usually loved. I got a call from the daycare person that something was wrong with Devin. They couldn’t figure out what was going on–he was a little limp and he was saying things that didn’t make sense. So I asked them to put him on the phone. I asked him what was the matter and he answered me in gibberish, like he was drunk. The daycare worker announced that they were taking him to the hospital. I was with a client at the time, said I had to leave, drove as fast as I could to be there, and on the way called my husband to meet them there—he was closer than I was. My husband got there just as Devin arrived and he pulled him out of the van, stiff and staring into space. This was such a complete shock: we had had a totally functioning normal child and now dramatically, everything had changed. By the time I got to the ER, he was on a bed with everyone standing around him crying because he was not making sense, still staring into space, his hands formed into a fist and his body rigid. I thought to myself, “Gosh Gina, with everything YOU’VE read, what can you do?” And it came to me…… Now for the rest of the story, the book: I Conquered MS and Son’s Epilepsy will be coming out soon sign up and I will notify you on the new release. www.ginakopera.com Sincerely. Gina Kopera M.H.

The gallbladder, a small organ situated near the liver, is the cause of the gallbladder disease, an illness that affects millions of people each year. Fats cannot be digested through normal procedures, a special substance is needed by the body in order to digest them. This substance is called bile, and is created by the liver. The gallbladder has the role of keeping the bile produced in the liver until fats enter the stomach. In this moment the gallbladder releases the bile and fat is digested and absorbed by the body through the intestine’s walls. When the body gets older, problems can occur in the gallbladder – the bile crystallizes and small stones form inside the pear-shaped organ – gallstones. These stones may be a problem and sometimes this problem can only be fixed through surgery.

Recent research has proven that diet has an important role both in preventing the gallbladder disease and after the surgery too.

People who are trying to lose weight fast and have a diet designed specially for this purpose are at a much greater risk of developing gallstones inside the gallbladder. This is because a fat-free diet changes the composition of the bile and increases the amount of cholesterol in it. Furthermore, if someone does not eat enough fat substances, no bile is needed by the stomach so bile remains unused in the gallbladder. Bile that stays in the gallbladder too long and also has a lot of cholesterol will surely start to cristallize and form gallstones inside.
A medicine that reduces the concentration of cholesterol from the bile was created, but it has not been approved yet. With its help bile could spend more time in the gallbladder before the cristallization process occurs, because cholesterol helps this process speed up.

Also, after someone was operated and his/her gallbladder was removed, a special diet must be followed after the surgery. If the gallbladder was removed then the bile and the fat digestion cannot be controlled properly by the body. So if you eat too much fat, the stomach can’t handle it because there isn’t enough bile to digest it all, and it eliminates it quickly through diarrhea.

Here are a few tips that must be respected by those who had their gallbladder removed and those who have problems with it and with gallstones:
-do not eat large meals. It’s better to eat more smaller meals
-do not eat too much fatty foods
-drink low-fat milk
-do not try to suddenly loose a lot of weight

Diet is an important factor in many diseases, and gallbladder is just one of them. A heathy diet can prevent this illness because certain substances found in food help the body eliminate some of the gallstone which could cause problems. If you eat many fresh vegetables not only will you reduce your risks of getting gallstones, but you will help prevent a lot more diseases, so remember how important diet is for your health.

The gallbladder surgery is not a problem any more and it is one of the most common procedures made in the US. It is usually made with the help of the laparoscope and that is why its name is laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

The gallbladder is situated in the upper right side of the abdomen, under the liver and above the duodenum. Its function is to transport the bile produced by the liver into the bile ducts and then into the small intestine when needed. Bile is requested after eating because it is used in the process of digestion. Until then, the bile remains stocked inside the gallbladder and is being concentrated. You must not worry that your digestion will be affected after the removal of the gallbladder; most of the patients do not have problems with that.

Gallstones are a result of a malfunction of the gallbladder. They appear when the liquid inside the gallbladder hardens and creates small hard pieces that resemble to stone.

The reason why gallstones form out of bile is because sometimes the normal bile composition can change containing a lot of cholesterol or a lot of bile salts and bilirubin.

If the bile gets locked inside one of these ducts complications like pancreatitis or gallbladder inflammation can occur. Signs of such a problem are: jaundice, fever and intense pain that lasts a long time.

Gallstones are found by the doctor when using ultrasounds. There are other X-rays available too and they can also localize the gallstones. Generally surgery is recommended because gallstones do not disappear by themselves. Of course, treatment consisting out of low fat diet and some drugs can help but the gallstones will continue to form after a while.

The most recommended procedure of removing the gallbladder and gallstones is the laparoscopic cholecystectomy. By using the laparoscope procedure the patients will recover faster and will suffer less pain because the wounds of the abdomen are significantly smaller and less that those made when performing a classical surgery. Most patients are free to go home after a day or two of hospitalization.

The laparoscopic procedure is not recommended for those who have scars from other surgeries or for pregnant women in the last months or for those who have a severe inflammation along with peritonitis.

Before a surgery is done the patient will have to do some adjustments in his life like: giving up smoking, a complete check-up of the organism, a written consent for surgery, and a shower the night before the surgery. Also, do not forget to inform the surgeon about your current medication, this is very important for him.

During the surgery the patient will be sleeping with the help of an anesthetic and will not feel a thing. The surgeon will make three small incisions inside the abdomen and one through the belly button. Through those incisions he will introduce the laparoscope’s instruments needed for surgery. One of the laparoscope’s instruments has attached an optic video camera which allows the medical team to see what it is inside your abdomen. After that the surgeon will find the gallbladder and will remove it with the help of the other laparoscopic instruments. Also additional x-rays will be performed in order to see if there are any gallstones inside the bile ducts too. The wounds inside the abdomen will be closed with some stitches or surgical tape.

If the laparoscopic surgery can not be done, the surgeon will perform an open surgery, consisting out of making a cut inside the abdomen right under the right ribs and removing the gallbladder and gallstones through this incision.

After surgery is done the patient might be feeling nausea or vomiting and will be approved to leave the hospital only after liquids or a diet is tolerated. The dressing will be removed after a day or two and the patient will be able to take a shower and walk. Normal activity is possible after a week of resting. Also, a check up at the hospital is recommended after two weeks had passed since surgery was done.

Complications can occur and you must call the doctor if you do not feel well. Some of the complications are: pneumonia, infections of the wounds, blood clots, fever, chills, bleeding, or heart problems. But generally complications do not occur very often after gallbladder removal.
